Hannah Point

A rocky outcropping in southwest Livingston Island that is home to diverse polar wildlife

Region: Antarctica

Destinations: Antarctic Peninsula

The many highlights of Hannah Point

Hannah Point is a popular landing site that supports some of the most diverse animal life of the Antarctic Peninsula. This rocky outcropping is connected to Walker Bay, where fossils may be seen, and the variety of wildlife around Hannah Point includes such fine species as chinstrap penguins, gentoos, blue-eyed shags, giant petrels, and elephant seals.

Travel restrictions around Hannah Point

Because Hannah Point is crowded with wildlife during the breeding season, the area is particularly vulnerable to human disturbance. We must therefore use caution while on shore. At the height of the breeding season, Hannah Point is closed to visitors to prevent disturbing the animals. During the open period, visitation restrictions are in place.
