The most northerly active volcano
When sailing to the remote Arctic island of Jan Mayen, the first thing that will appear out of the watery horizon is the icy white crest of Mt. Beerenberg. But sleepy as it may seem, this 2,277-meter high (7,470 feet) stratovolcano is still active and had its last eruption in 1985. If local conditions permit, we attempt to see this natural wonder up close.
