The Spitsbergen Airship Museum, which is located close to the Svalbard Museum near the waterfront, covers the history of Arctic exploration by means of Zeppelin and balloon. At the end of the 19th century these dirigibles were getting popular for polar exploration. Famous airship explorers of that time are Salomon Andrée, Walter Wellman and Roald Amundsen who all tried to reach the North-pole by means of an airship.
