The plant life, history, and seals of Skjoldungen
On and around the island of Skjoldungen we encounter some of the most fascinating landscapes in all of Greenland. Nearby glaciers calve into the fjords, and the terrain is carpeted with dwarf birch and Arctic flowers. Inhabited over 400 years ago, Skjoldungen was named after the successors of King Skjold in Danish mythology and is the site of an ancient Thule settlement we can still view today - perhaps along with the local population of ringed seals, if we’re lucky.
