Barentsøya or Barents Island
Barentsøya is one of the islands in the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard. It is nearly half glaciated, is part of the Søraust-Svalbard Nature Reserve, and is entirely free of human inhabitants – though polar bears find the island quite appealing, visiting Barentsøya almost as often as the kittiwakes. Though Barentsøya is named after Dutch navigator Willem Barentsz, he in fact never set eyes on the island.
